About Wan Hai Lines
Wan Hai started primarily as a raw log shipping company operating in Taiwan, Japan, and Southeast Asia. Recognizing the coming trends of containerization, we purchased our first full-container ship, MV "Ming Chun", in July 1976 and started container shipping between Taiwan and Japan. Since then, Wan Hai had grown into a fully containerized shipping company.
In June 1983, Wan Hai launched the shipping routes to Kanto and Kansai, Japan, establishing Wan Hai's leading position in the Japanese shipping market. To serve our Taiwanese customers who have invested in Southeast Asia, in 1989, we have expanded our service coverage to South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, et cetera. With our excellent performance in intra-Asia shipping, we have become the thirdlargest carrier in Taiwan, providing the most frequent voyages and the most comprehensive service network in the Far East region.
As a leading provider of intra-Asia shipping services, we have won awards from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) in recognition of our excellent performance. Additionally, in 1987, we leased our first terminal in the Port of Kaohsiung to provide customers with more comprehensive and high-quality services. Since then, we have invested in exclusive terminals and container depots at Taichung and Taipei, as well as overseas regions, such as Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and China.
By tapping into the Asian market, Wan Hai was able to expand our presence, thanks to the support of our customers. Currently, we have business operation centers and directly-served ports in 33 countries. We extended our service coverage by launching shipping routes in India and the Middle East. Subsequently, we launched additional routes between the Far East region, the west and east coast of the U.S., and the west coast of South America, further expanding our services for trans-Pacific trade, thus, transforming Wan Hai into a global shipping company.
Wan Hai became listed on the TWSE as a type 1 stock in May 1996. By proactively examining our shipping routes and capacity and adequately allocating our ships, we have been a stable and sustainable carrier and we have consistently shown outstanding performance among other listed shipping companies.
